Answer:
Basic is the sub-stream of the camera. This is a lower quality/resolution stream intended for looking at multiple channels at once, to save bandwidth/resources. HD is the main-stream. This is the full resolution version of the feed, intended for playback and looking at one camera at a time, this uses the most bandwidth/resources.
